The Biggest Sports Story of 2007

Da Da Daa.... Da Da Daa!
Who's voice leads off SportsCenter tonight?

Beckham's moving to Hollywood!

Will he choose #7 or #23? I think he'll go back to #7. We're sure to find out on Friday when he's officially announced by the Galaxy.

I'm still not 100% sure I like this move for Beckham, but he's determined to make it work and try to make soccer popular in this country. I think the biggest hurdle will be getting the media to cover the sport more. MLS barely gets any press nationally and hopefully with Beckham here in SoCal and he starts producing the free kick goals and the long ball passes that we all know he can, then MLS can get some buzz and ride the wave that is David Beckham.

Most Americans know who he is....which is a good thing for MLS....I don't think he's washed up....not even close. I think he had a very good World Cup until he got hurt....his free kick skills are UNMATCHED!! Corner kick skills are great and the ability to be a leader....well....I personally thought he was good captain for England.

I wish him the best of luck and I (personally) would love to have a press pass for his first match at the Home Depot Center.

And don't forget that he brings Posh and the kids with him too!!
In other MLS news....FC Dallas are in talks with Edgar Davids. Davids is a tough player and has a "bulldog" mentality....if soccer had "enforcer players" like hockey does he would be it.
He's also one of my favorite players and I wish he would have done better at Tottenham.

Is Beckham Done?

David Beckham was left out of England's squad that will face Greece in an international friendly next Wednesday.

At first I was like....
Really?

I really like David Beckham. I think he's probably the best in the world in a free kick situation and I also think he's a very good long ball passer. Especially across the pitch.

I mean, come on....I know that new manager Steve McClaren is not Sven II. McClaren has stated that he's going to do it "his way."

Beckham is with Real Madrid touring the states and may have just asked to be left off the squad....no one is reporting that....all the reports just say he was left off the squad and this could mean his international career is done.

Who knows? I haven't heard anything directly from either of the horses mouths. So your guess is as good as mine.

Beckham has 94 caps for his country with over half of those as the captain. I really hope that Beckham can reach his goal of 100 caps.

Good Luck Becks....I hope it all works out.

Chelsea's Captain, now England's Captain!

John Terry (as expected) has taken over as England Captain from David Beckham.

Already the captain of his club team, Chelsea, Terry was on a very short list of Beckham's replacements. It was basically Terry and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.

I think that either would have been a good choice. Personally I would have chosen Gerrard, but that's just me.

World Cup Update - Day 17

ECUADOR 0 - 1 ENGLAND

ABC show Beckham still in the tunnel waiting for the teams to come out onto the pitch and he looks like he's ready for a street fight! Hopefully that's gonna be a good sign!!

Ashley Cole saved England's World Cup life early in the first half. The Arsenal defender comes in a gets a sliding deflection on an almost wide open shot for Carlos Tenorio of Ecuador.

England again play an awful half of football, in the first half. Hopefully that means they'll play better football in the second half.

BECKHAM SCORES!!
England wins!

HOLLAND 0 - 1 PORTUGAL

Portugal score in the 23rd minute....and it holds up for the win.

Unfortunately, another ref steals the headlines as he ejects 4 players and ties the World Cup record for yellow cards with 16!

England will meet Portugal in the next round.

World Cup Update - Day 7

ECUADOR 3 - 0 COSTA RICA

Ecuador are for real!! I'm really looking forward to watching them play Germany next!

ENGLAND 2 - 0 TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

What's up England? Seriously, these boys looks B-A-D....they definitely aren't coming into these matches with any heart. Thank God for Rooney and Lennon, being subbed in. Rooney just brought a spark and got the crowd into it again, but Lennon, did a great job creating space for himself and also drew two players to him which opened up space for Beckham. Who is still spot on with his crosses, but they need some fire!
COME ON ENGLAND!

SWEDEN 1 - 0 PARAGUAY

If this World Cup is remembered for anything, it should be remembered for all of the late goals! Freddie Ljungberg scores in the 89th minute.

Random Thoughts About the World Cup

Just some random things about the World Cup....

What is up with Christiano Ronaldo from Portugal?? Dude wears a long sleeved jersey just so he can cut the sleeves up a quarter of the way up. He looked like a dork....I've never really liked him anyway!

Did anyone see that fan who kept the ball that went into the stands? That would be sweet!!

What's up with the braided frontal triangle haircut on Angola's Loco?

Is Brent Musburger embarassing to anyone else?? It seems like he knows NOTHING about soccer....I mean nothing at all. I'd love to talk to Alexi Lalas off the record to find out what he thinks of him. I mean I understand that he's a super senior anchor for ABC Sports, but jeez....come on people! He seems like he's just reading from the teleprompter.

I wish Dwight Yorke was still a striker. If he moves any further back he'll be playing in goal by the time the last group game is played.

How awesome is Tommy Smyth (widda Y)? This guy ROCKS!! Not only does he know WTF he's talking about....his accent is great!

David Beckham is DAMN HANDSOME!! I like how he moved himself into the "good light"....he's such a good model. Look at him, the cameras are out and he's in the zone....everyone else is cracking up....not David, he's in "Sexy Bitch" mode.

I actually think he's using Rooney's face as a reflector!

....He does it AGAIN!

ENGLAND 6....Jamaica 0

Crouch adds the arm wave to his RoboKOP celebration dance! Scores 3 goals, missed a penalty, but has more than likely earned a starting spot for England's first match against Paraguay.

It was a great match for England and they should go into the World Cup with a lot of confidence, even without Wayne Rooney.

Beckham looks great....I mean the spot kicks are dead on. The long passes are amazingly accurate.

Sol Campbell still looks a bit shaky to me....but he probably won't start anyway. I do think it'll be good for him to get some playing time, but Sven shouldn't take any chances.
