My New Favorite Commercial
This has got to be the funniest commercial of the year and the year has only just begun.
It's so great because it screams Mr. T....but then there's also that "nerd" aspect of computer games.
Enjoy!

Super Bowl - the Commercials
WARNING!
This is going to be a BIG POST
So it's been a week since the SuperBowl.
Here's my TOP 10 for the Super Bowl Commecials....
Let's start off with some Honorable Mentions
Honorable Mention #1 - GM - Robot Bad Dream
HM #2 - Foot Locker - Autograph
HM #3 - Budweiser Select - Jay Z vs Don Shula
OK....so here's my TOP 10
#10 - Budweiser - Spot Wink
I really thought this one was cute....but that's about it. The part that won me over and moved it from Honorable Mention to #10 was the very end of the commercial with the dog and the parade princess.
#9 - Chevy - HHR Car Wash
"Tell me when it's over!"
#8 - Doritos - Live the Flavor
I like this one, I really do...it's funny....but I saw the commercial BEFORE the Super Bowl, so that ruined it for me.
#7 - Bud Light - Rock/Paper/Scissors
Nothing like a classic game to settle a grievance.
#6 - Sprint - Connectile Dysfunction
FREAKING HILARIOUS....If they would have added a disclaimer about the side effects, this would have easily been top 3 for me!!
#5 - Bud Light - Class Mencia
"Bood Light"
#4 - Budweiser - King Crab
Just plain funny
#3 - Doritos - Check Out Girl
I liked this one, EXCEPT for the final remark....I could have done without the "Clean up on Register 6" - YUCK!
#2 - Nationwide - Rollin' VIP
You've seen it here on my blog before....I loved watching on the big screen on Sunday! (What??)
#1 - Bud Light - Auctioneer
How awesome would that be??? Even as a joke, that would be funny!
All in all, I thought it was a pretty weak year for Super Bowl ads....I think there was a total of 51. I hate when they show movie trailers for commercials during the Super Bowl too....even if it was a new movie, like with that Wild Hogs movie. If you're gonna show a movie trailer, ESPECIALLY for a movie that has already been running ads, like with Hannibal Rising and Meet the Robinsons....give me something new, something I haven't seen yet! Come on guys!
Also, as much as I hated Career Builders monkey ads from last years Super Bowl, I hate their commercials this year just as much! They weren't even funny to me.

Coffee and Coins Don't Mix
The wife and I went out to visit my grandparents last weekend. When we go to my grandparents we always take the toll roads. We stuck a $20 into the toll machine and we got dollar coins back.....no worries there, it's still money, right??
On the way home, the kids were asleep in the back of the car and we decided to stop off at Starbucks to get drinks.
I give her about 10 of our $1 coins and off she went into Starbucks. I stayed in the car with the kids.
When she came out, she had the funniest story.....the girl behind the counter looked at coins and then turned to another barista and said...."We take these, right?"
REALLY?? Is that even a valid question? It's U.S. tender....why wouldn't they take it?
Has our society become so dependant on plastic??

Are You Watching?
Have you been watching RockStar: SuperNova? No?
Me either....I just can't get in to it this season.
Last season I think was more emotional....with INXS out of action since the death of Michael Hutchence, their lead singer....it seemed like they had done some serious soul searching and were ready to get back to playing and performing music.
For me, it introduced me to some great INXS tracks that either I had never heard or I didn't know "THAT song is by INXS?"
This season SuperNova is looking for a lead singer. I just can't get into SuperNova....3 "legends" as the web site puts it. Tommy Lee from Motley Crue....Gilby Clarke ex-Guns N Roses....and Jason Newsted ex-Metallica.
Do you see the trend? 2 of the 3 members are ex-members of a band. Kicked out of their last bands....Tommy Lee has a solo album (his 3rd) coming out soon and still plays with Motley Crue.
I have watched parts of it, but I just can't get sucked in....maybe I'll tune in for the final 4 contestants.

Super Chicken
A friend of mine and I were talking today at lunch about Super Chicken....do you remember that cartoon?
Here's the intro....
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Super Chicken was a cartoon produced by Jay Ward and Bill Scott, who earlier had created the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. It ran with George of the Jungle and Tom Slick (cartoon) on ABC TV on Saturday Mornings from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.
Super Chicken (voiced by Bill Scott) and his lion sidekick Fred would usually begin their adventures with the battlecry that went something like: "Quick, Fred, to the Super Coop."
His secret identity was well to do Henry Cabot Henhouse III; Fred acted as his butler/servant, etc. But when danger reared its ugly head, he would take his "Super Sauce" (often from a martini glass) and don his "Super Suit," which consisted of a plumed cavalier's hat, cape, Wellington boots, mask and a sword.
The cartoon had several running gags, including:

The cartoon had several running gags, including:
- The "Super Sauce" apparently either tasted really bad or packed quite a punch when it kicked in, as Henry would have a violent reaction moments after drinking it, nearly always stopping in mid-sentence to cluck loudly as the reaction hit him.
- Fred would often ask Super Chicken why he didn't use his "super-vision", to which Super-Chicken would respond with something to the effect of "If I had any supervision, do you think I'd be running around dressed like this?"
- In the course of a plan to defeat the bad guys, Super Chicken would suggest something dangerous for Fred's part, which Fred would be reluctant to carry out. When Fred voiced his reluctance, Super Chicken always reminded him, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred!"
Ahhhh, those were the days!! I wish they made cartoons like that these days!

World Cup Update - Day 25 - THE FINAL
France played very well and I think deserved to win until their captain, Zinadine Zidane, imploded and head butted an Italian defender.

Ummmmm....WTF?
Seriously, what goes through your head at that point? Did he think that the sideline ref wouldn't see it? All that guy does is watch the defenders!
I don't agree with some who've said that this whole head butt thing has ruined Zidane's brilliant career....it's scratched it a little, but I don't think it'll scar it for life. He's still a spectacular footballer.
You can watch the replay below.

The rest of the extra time goes on without a goal and we move on to penalty kicks.
All players made their kicks EXCEPT for David Trezeguet....he hits the crossbar.
That's all the Italians needed.

I still think that the Italians dive a little too much, but they're the World Cup Champions!

World Cup Update - Day 23
FRANCE 1 - 0 PORTUGAL
Today's game wasn't near as exciting as yesterday's but still a good game.
Arsenal striker Thierry Henry draws a penalty and Zidane burys it in the back of the net.
France moves on to the final game.

World Cup Update - Day 22
ITALY 2 - 0 GERMANY
Two big stats stood out before this match started.
1) Germany have never lost in the stadium in Dortmund.
2) Italy have never lost to Germany in the World Cup.
This has to be considered one of the best matches of this World Cup....the best part was that the ref didn't get involved and he let the players play!
They went in the extra time tied at zero.
Then the last 5 minutes of the extra time were amazing....great end to end action. Fabio Grosso scores for Italy with less than two minutes to play....then del Piero scores again for Italy to seal the deal!
Italy are on to the final in Berlin.
